My Father's Ordinary 002
(2010-2013)
These photos capture 出初め式 (Dezomeshiki), which takes place every January.
The Dezomeshiki is an event where firefighters gather at the beginning of the new year to demonstrate their renewed determination to prevent disasters and their firefighting skills to the public. Events include a parade of fire engines, ladder climbing, and simultaneous water spraying, with the aim of raising public awareness of fire and disaster prevention. The event’s origins date back to the firefighters of the Edo period, and it has also played a role in giving courage and hope to the public.
These photos are a part of the daily life my father captured over a four-year period starting in 2010.

Thanks for sharing. I have planned to attend one of these for years, but sadly work always intervenes…
