(Late 2000s) Why do Japanese like vending machines? I don't know either.
It's a common sight for Japanese people, but foreigners who visit Japan are surprised by the many vending machines.
However, I was surprised when I entered an old laundromat that was probably around 50 years old. There were 3 vending machines there. Bleach, laundry detergent, and condoms. what? condom? Who on earth would buy it at a laundromat?
There are drugstores and convenience stores all over town. Even though we can buy drinks and condoms in those stores, the number of vending machines mysteriously continues to grow.
