2,000 yen bill
Now, it's a rare existence.
Currently, 6 types of coins and 3 types of bills are in circulation in Japan.
COINS / 1 yen, 5 yen, 10 yen, 50 yen, 100 yen, 500 yen
BILLS / 1000 yen, 5000 yen, 10000 yen
As you may have already noticed, the denominations of these bills are made up of only 1, 5, and 0. Outside of Japan, there are banknotes with the number 2 in them, such as 20 dollar and 20 euro bills, but the number 2 is never used on Japanese currency. However, there was an exception to this: the 2000 yen bill issued between 2000 and 2003.
The 2000 yen bill was issued to commemorate the 26th G8 Summit held in Okinawa in 2000 and the millennium. For this reason, the front of the bill features the Shureimon Gate of Shuri Castle in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture.
At the time of issue, the Japanese government expected this new bill to become popular, but in the end it did not, and now it has become a rare bill that is rarely seen. (However, it seems that many 2000 yen bills are still in circulation in Okinawa Prefecture.)
