Those tiles are beautiful. Are they an older building material or are buildings still built and clad that way now?

Many buildings using beautiful tiles like these were built in the 1950s and 1960s, but unfortunately they are rarely used in modern buildings.

I see we share a fascination with old crumbling buildings. I'd be curious to know the story about that Playboy building.

What these photos have in common is that they were taken on streets that were once thriving but are now deserted. The Playboy building was probably a lively bar a few dozen years ago.

The tiles with the flowers on them are in particular beautiful, I really love them as they remind me of those in the old palace of the Tokugawas in Kyoto. Thank you for sharing them, there is beauty there, though the decrepit state of the building saddens me. What sort building was it? It looked like it once had a cross.

Any chance it gets renovated?

I don't know what purpose the tile buildings were used for, but they were in a dilapidated state when I took these photos, so they may have already been demolished.

Cela m'attriste enormement, that saddens me greatly. Those buildings were part of the story of Japan, and had a place still.

Sorry for being sentimental about such things, I find it difficult not to become sentimental about such buildings even when they are abandoned. Japan is a very special country.
