So much plastic! I know Japanese goods are beautifully wrapped and presented, and that those are photos from fifteen years or so ago, but is plastic wrapping still used so much?
The use of plastic bags has decreased since supermarkets and convenience stores started charging for them, but unfortunately, plastic packaging is still common in Japan. However, Japan has strict separation of garbage collection, and the recycling rate seems to have reached a certain level.
My favorite thing to do in Japan is to go into any ordinary shop like a stationers or 7-11 and see what thye have. It is a completely different retail world.

It's true that Japanese stationery comes in a huge variety and depth, so even just browsing the shelves is fun.
