In Japan, there is a standard for “Kei-Car” that have an engine with a displacement of less than 660cc. (Kei means “lightweight”)
Kei-Cars have an engine that is only half the size of a large motorcycle, but they are large enough to transport up to 4 people, and are common in Japan.
I once owned a 4000cc SUV, but one day I realized that a small car was better suited for the Japanese road environment, so I made my debut as a Kei-Car in a SUBARU Pleo.

After driving a Pleo for several years, I switched to a Kei-SUV called “MITSUBISHI Pajero Mini” in 2011.

If you see cars with a yellow license plate on a Japanese road, those are Kei-Car.

Such a car would also make more sense in European cities than SUVs.
