A Certain Mountain
(Early 2010s)
The mountain can be seen from the window of the Shinkansen heading west from Nagoya. It's just an ordinary mountain. It is located just before Kyoto Station and can only be seen from the left side of the train. It's a low and unassuming mountain, so if I don't look out the window carefully, I'll miss it.
I don't even know why I'm fascinated by that mountain. But when I take the Shinkansen to Osaka or Kyoto, I can't help but take pictures of it.
I took these photos about 10 years ago. For about 10 years, I have been wanting to know the name of that mountain. And recently, I finally learned that it is Mt. Mikami (Wikipedia).
I added a paid plan to this publication in April 2024, the first anniversary of its launch. But don't worry. All articles are still available for free. If you pay me, you won't get any benefits, but I promise to use it to keep this work going.

Travel by train is so wonderful. Who has time to do anything but look out the window? There is so much beautiful scenery.
Strangely I remember being fascinated by Mikami-san on my first trip to Japan also, interesting how both our minds and eyes fixated upon it.
