At that time, I was already a graphic designer with nearly 10 years of experience. When you work in that field for 10 years, you often experience situations where you feel that your imagination is limited. Designers must always keep their imagination fresh and flexible. So I watch movies, listen to music, go to art exhibitions, and read books.
I came across this book by chance in a bookstore and it gave me a huge shock. It was like being hit over the head with a big hammer.
The book “FLYERS -California-” was published in Japan in 1995. It was around the time that DTP (desktop publishing) using Macintosh was just starting to take off in Japan. I was looking ahead, not wanting to miss out on this change.
The flyer photographs that freelance writer KITAMURA Yuko took on street corners during her stay in California took me back to my roots.
