Feliz año nuevo Si la IA puede generar mejores fotografías que yo, tendré que retirarme. Pero probablemente no lo lograré durante mi vida.

I fear that the day will come when AI will have the ability to think.

Susanne Helmert's avatar

I didn‘t know you could do that in Substack. And I am not sure what I think about it...

SHIMIZU Akira's avatar

I hope Substack users don't end up abusing the AI.

7 quake in Ishikawa-ken. Akira, are you okay?

SHIMIZU Akira's avatar

I'm ok. Thank you. Are you ok?

Louise Haynes's avatar

Yes, we’re fine. It was strong and long here. It will soon get dark. I hope people have evacuated safely.

Aftershocks are occurring over and over again. Even in Aichi, we need to be cautious for a while.

It rocked a bit in Tokyo too

SHIMIZU Akira's avatar

Do you live in Tokyo? Several weak earthquakes have occurred in Aichi, where I live. Let's continue to be careful.

Yes, I live in Tokyo. Let's hope there isn't a big tsunami

I didn't know you can generate images, honestly I hate that stuff and find the generated images here lifeless and limp. Your pictures from 2010 and 2023 are much better to look at Shimizu-san and carry much more life. No AI could do what you do mon ami.

SHIMIZU Akira's avatar

For now, AI-generated images are nothing but laughable, but they're also pretty creepy. Maybe they will start deceiving people like HAL9000. That's incredibly scary.

Agreed, I fear that day may soon be upon us, until then I intend to resist AI influence and push for human-art and to market, market, market fellow artists, photographers and fine people such as yourself.

Oh, I didn't know that button yet, thanks for sharing!!

I am not shure what I think about it.

AI was the reason why I felt insecurity about starting a substack at all. After I stopped being on Facebook & Twitter and reduced my Instagram time massively.

Substack is another possibility of feeding AI with language and pictures and human behavior, conversations.

They learn from any free data online. I am very clear about this with every 'virtual' conversation. Somehow I see my personal responsibility to show up for a tolerant, free and peaceful way of human experience/ existence. It's one of the reasons why I tend to be curious and learn by reading/ listening to others. How can we create virtual conversations that are closely to real conversations?

I still wonder, cause my personal experience is, it's so different!

We got so much more 'data's from another person in person! Sometimes it's just overwhelming, how much instability is in just one body. Or how much anger without constructive sense of direction.

I can clearly understand, the we will soon need more AI to keep a higher living standard possible. And it could be nice, easy.

Also I see the difficulties within. For example house automation and the rising sensitivity for a hacker attack in a private household.

As we already see in political context how far the impact of political influence build by AI based "work" is growing into inhumane directions and a mood of intolerance and disinformation. Worries are so much realistic. But its unfun.

Last year I had a private conversation about a health topic of a friends daughter, with my mobile in my bag. It was not in active mode. But some AI did 'listen' and afterwards share some articles on different apps (google, IG).

Thank you for offering this topic for a conversation! I hope it's ok, that I share so many thoughts about it. Its moving me on professional and private levels. Also as a mum I really want us to create a happy, peaceful healthy future. And as a mum I can't believe into this vision and keep others outside 🙏🏼

I must first apologize. I'm not good at languages other than Japanese, so I'm relying on a translation service to communicate here in English. However, translation services do not have the ability to accurately translate the fine nuances of sentences, and unfortunately I cannot say that I was able to fully understand your comments.

But I appreciate you writing a comment on my article.

Julia Schmitz's avatar

Oh I see and understand the difficulty of understanding the fine nuances of sentences. I still learn English and need a translation service many times!

And AI is a very complex topic.

Now I know and keep the comments more short & easy, but also I feel sorry for writing such a long comment 🙈

Please don't worry about it. I'm disappointed that I couldn't fully understand what you wrote.

Let’s keep in touch.
