Japan 2011
Earthquake, Tsunami, Nuclear Accident
Japan is occasionally hit by major natural disasters. In January 1995, a huge earthquake occurred in western Japan, but in March 2011, a huge earthquake in eastern Japan not only caused an earthquake, but also caused a tsunami, and a nuclear power plant melted down, releasing radioactive materials.
The disgusting disaster had a huge impact not only on the affected areas but also on all of Japan, greatly shaking people's hearts.
I lived far away from the disaster area, so I was not directly affected. A festival called "Tankororin" is held every summer near the town where I live, and at the festival, people write their wishes on paper lanterns and light them up. However, in 2011, the message written on the paper lantern was different from usual.

Japan is located in an area where crustal movement is congested. And it is hit by violent typhoons many times a year. Disasters easily take away people's precious things. The individual is too powerless against nature.
It is often said that Japanese people “respect the group over the individual” and “respect the rules and respect others”. I believe that the nature of Japanese people was shaped by the experience of disasters.
