My Hometown
(Early 2010s) Toki City
Toki City, Gifu Prefecture is my hometown where I was born and lived until I was 25 years old. (This city's current population is approximately 58,000.)
The area around this city has been active in pottery for hundreds of years, producing many types of pottery in the Oribe and Shino styles. When I was a child, many potteries produced porcelain tableware and other items, and exported them overseas.
Nowadays, ceramics are mainly produced for the domestic market, and the production volume has decreased considerably. Unfortunately, this city lost its vitality as a result.
However, young potters are starting to create new styles of work, so I have high hopes for them.
