令和 Reiwa
(2019)
I was born in 1963, in the 38th year of the 昭和 (Shōwa). Then, in January 1989, when I was 25, Japan’s era name changed from 昭和 (Shōwa) to 平成 (Heisei).
Shōwa era (December 25, 1926 - January 7, 1989)
In Japan, the era name changes when the Emperor passes away and the next Emperor ascends the throne.
In December 2017, Emperor Akihito announced his intention to abdicate while still alive. It is extremely rare for an emperor to announce his abdication while still in office.
He abdicated on April 30, 2019, and it was decided that the next emperor would ascend the throne on May 1, the following day.
Heisei era (January 8, 1989 - April 30, 2019)
This announcement sparked interest in what the new era name would be. The era name is decided after more than a year of deliberation by scholars, cultural figures, and experts appointed by the Cabinet.

On April 1, 2019, Chief Cabinet Secretary SUGA Yoshihide announced that Japan’s new era name would be “令和 (Reiwa)”.

That's interesting, I didnt know that.
Wonderful, love the memorabilia. If France had had more Napoleons and Communes, they could have done the same! Long life and good health to you all.
