What do you call the great heron in Japan? I love seeing them and have pictures of one in Dublin, Ireland on the Grand Canal.

The fella in the picture is a grey heron, aosagi in Japanese.

The grey heron in the center is called アオサギ (AoSagi), and the white herons on either side are called シラサギ (ShiraSagi). They are often seen in rivers, ponds, and rice fields in Japan.
