I drove a Toyota Landcruiser in the Congo (then Zaire) for two years while posted there in the late 1970s, having been told that if you were going to be there for a looonnnnng time get a Landrover but for less than that get a Landcruiser. It worked well for us and we sold it for what we paid for it (we knew the buyer was working the local foreign exchange racket so we didn’t feel bad about helping him spend some of his profits). A year later I would be driving a used Toyota Corolla purchased locally in Northern Ireland (right hand drive) which I drove all over Ireland and the UK.
Those side mirrors are distinctive in their placement!
