The article “Disaster” that I posted in January of this year received a lot of responses from many people.
At the end of that article, I mentioned that I was planning to purchase a car that could be used as an evacuation shelter in the event of a disaster, and that plan has finally become a reality. The car I recently purchased is a Daihatsu Atrai. It's a 4WD Kei-Car, the same as the Mitsubishi Pajero Mini that I had been driving until now. There are various types of Kei-Cars in Japan, and since the Atrai is a van type, it is commonly known as the “Kei-Van”.
Although it is a small car, the rear seats can be folded down to become one with the cargo area, creating a large, fully flat floor that provides enough space for two adults to stretch out and sleep.
As I wrote in the previous article, Japan is a country that experiences many earthquakes, and it is certain that a “Nankai Trough earthquake” will occur sooner or later. Since such an earthquake would affect a very wide area of Japan, it is predicted that it will be difficult for the national and local governments to carry out rapid and sufficient relief efforts. Since public institutions cannot be trusted, each of us must make preparations as much as we can.
The articles in this publication are generally available for free, but if you sign up for a paid plan you will be able to view exclusive articles delivered every month. And, Your payment will be used as valuable funding to help “JAPAN ORDINARY -photos-” continue its activities.
So please tell me why public institutions cannot be trusted?
That’s a very cool car! I hope you do not need to use it as a lifesaver, but you are smart to have it!
