This is called "hip shooting." It is not weird. You can have fun with it and maybe get a few good pictures, or you can really give it a shot and practice it. By that i mean, you develop a "third eye" and can "know" what your camera is shooting. Of course you can't predict the details, but with practice you can know what the subject is and you can know when not to click the shutter, because of poor lighting, lack of contrast, etc. It can feel like "spying" and sometimes you will take photos that you may want to delete for privacy concerns. But hip shooting is a great photography practice that deserves a day in the (Tokyo) sun!

Whether you gain experience and practice and acquire the "third eye", or close all eyes and leave yourself to fate, each is an inverse vector, which is very interesting.
