大須観音 Ōsu Kannon

Ōsu Kannon is a Buddhist temple located in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. It was built at its current location in 1612 by order of Tokugawa Ieyasu. In 1815, a five-story pagoda was also erected; however, the main hall, the pagoda, and the Niōmon gate were destroyed by a major fire in 1892. While the main hall and the Niōmon gate were rebuilt after the fire, the five-story pagoda was not. In 1945, the buildings were once again destroyed by American air raids. Temporary structures for the main hall and the Niōmon gate were constructed in 1949, and in 1970, the current main hall was rebuilt using reinforced concrete. Although there were plans to rebuild the five-story pagoda, they were never realized due to a lack of funds.
